HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I didn't learn to drive until I moved to L.A. in my 20s. When I lived in NYC I had no reason to drive. To this day I still turn into a New Yorker when I drive (cursing, yelling at other drivers, etc) even though I never drove in New York.

Rereading this, I agree with you when you say that the political ideology comes because said evil people want to uphold a dictatorship.

However, you're all wrong when you say Voldemort has no motive. It's not clear in the movies, but it's incredibly explicit from almost the first book that Voldemort is TERRIFIED of death. Everything he does is to keep himself from dying, because he thinks that he's above it (probably because of his Slytherin background). All his other evil doings are a bi-product of that fear: his squad of Death Eaters are sacrifices, and for the most part they kill members of the Order who act as a threat to Voldy. When they do kill "random" people, it is usually to create a horcrux, or because they know something, or because (like Quirrel) they can help Voldemort stay alive. The mass events of terrorism, I think, come from the Death Eaters, who love chaos and murder more or less because they are insane pure bloods. Voldemort is never related directly to these attacks, he more or less sits back and allows his children to play.

Thus: Voldemort is entirely motivated by his fear of death. He says so in the second book that he doesn't care about killing Muggle-borns anymore, he just wants to kill Potter (because Potter is the one person who stands in the way of immortality).

Mike: I think the point of the ad is that the father doesn't get it. and its pretty funny. Besides, you must know people on FB who update all the time with trivia: "going to bed now". thats one of MY favorites.

In my orbit, there are only two people I know who twitter and I keep up with them in other ways. Complete strangers request to follow me which I absolutely don't get. So, its not for me.

Twitter can be a useful news source. I usually hear about events like Michael Jackson dying on Twitter several hours before it's in the news. Of course there are false reports also.

There's a TV ad for some cell phone which really irritates me in how they don't get Twitter. The father is twittering "I am sitting...". That's not the point of Twitter. Interesting people on twitter post interesting, informative, useful, or entertaining tweets, not tweeting that they just pooped or what they had for lunch.

I think it is very clear, that Voldemort is inspired by Hitler, just with pure-blood wizards instead of aryans.

Moreover the Ministry of Magic also looks like it has dictatorical control over the magic world in UK:

1. It controls the legislative, executive, and judical powers, but is clearly not elected by the people.

2. The magic newspaper "Daily Prophet" is clearly a propaganda newspaper from the MoM.

3. It uses dictatorical police state methods (Dolores Umbridge in Hogwarts, dementors in Azkaban).

4. The trial in the beginning of the 5. book is a show trial, with the judge (Fugde) acting like a prosecutor.

I also wonder if there are some kind of parties in the magic world in UK (Communist, Social Democrat, Liberal, Conservative...etc.), and the class structure too (magic corporations with greedy wizard capitalists, and wizard trade unions).
