I went “swingaringing” yesterday in Riverside Park. Yep, that’s me on the left!
Okay, that’s not me. I didn’t really go swingarining, I just sort of… swung back and forth. Swingaring is sort of a new gymnastics activity:
Traveling rings are unique outdoor physical fitness equipment that provide enjoyable and challenging exercise for the whole body. The structure consists of support posts and a top beam from which 8-10 rings, spaced 7-8 feet apart, hang on swivel chains 6-7 feet above the ground. Ring swingers “travel” from one ring to the next by using their arms, legs, and trunk to build momentum. The swivels enable the swinger to spin around and encourage more creative use.

Of course, I’m terrible at it. These little 7-year-olds, and I really mean 7-year-olds are flying around like Spider-Man on them and I’m just sort of swinging there like a dead chipmunk. But it’s amazing because these little kids have to be lifted into the air by their parents to even reach the swinging things, and then they just swing away like they’ve been doing it for all of their lives (all 7 years.) I’m sure that they had previous experience with these, but it’s sort of scary.
Unfortunately I got a huge blister on my hand so I had to stop. But I hope to go by next week and check it out again.

YIPES! How can they do it! My mind boggles!
