Here are some of my all-time favorite
1. Blue Rodeo - Five Days in July
Almost every single song on this album is just plain awesome. Blue Rodeo is a canadian country band, although it’s not stereotypical country, it has a lot of other great influences. A must-have album for anyone who remotely likes any kind of music. The guitar solo on the song “Five Days in May” is just AWESOME.
This has a lot of great songs from the single “Is She Really Going Out To Him?” to “One More Time.” It’s a very nice combination of very early punk and alternative - very experimental, but in a very good way.
My favorite Beatles album features “Drive My Car,” “You Won’t See Me,” “Norwegian Wood” and so much more. Again, almost all the songs on the album are great. That’s really what makes a good album I guess.
4. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
Almost every song on the album is really great. Born to Run is a great song,
but Thunder Road is then ten times better. Highly recommended.
5. “Weird Al” Yankovic - Straight Outta Lynwood
This album is definitely Weird Al’s best ever. From the hilarious “White
& Nerdy” to the excrutiatingly long “Stuck in the Drive-Thru” to
the (again) hilarious “Don’t Download this Song” this album does NOT
disappoint.

“Rubber Soul” and “Born To Run” are at the top of my list.
Here are a few more:
Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow. I just rediscovered them when I found a CD by Grace Slick’s original group, Great Society, when I was in San Francisco for Macworld. Grace has one of the greatest voices ever in rock music.
Led Zeppelin IV - this one has some of their best songs, including Black Dog, Rock & Roll, and Stairway to Heaven
Paul Simon - Graceland. This is the album that got me interested in African music. When I heard it for the first time it was a completely new sound, unlike anything I heard before.
The Clash - Sandanista. This double album pushes the boundaries of their sound. Most of the tracks are Ska or Reggae style.
Interesting list. I’ll check out Blue Rodeo for sure. I couldn’t make a list of favorite albums of all time anymore than I could make a list of favorite Movies of all time… but here are several albums which overwhelmed me with their awesomeness and drove me to wear out their grooves (or optical pits). (I’m omitting some that I wore out that do not hold up).
Steely Dan - Reelin’ in the Years
Neil Young - Harvest
Beatles - White Album
Jefferson Airplane - Bless its Pointed Little Head
Allman Brothers - Eat a Peach
hmmm, nothing newer than the 70’s there. Here’s some more recent faves:
Chuck Mangione - Feels so Good
KD Lang - Ingenue
TLC - Crazy Sexy Cool
Jamiroqui - Travelling Without Moving
yeah, I’ll 2nd: Paul Simon - Graceland
(Bruce Springsteen is vastly overrated. OK songwriter, but I change the station when he comes on the radio. yawn.)
Still, its all 20th century stuff.
Since I’ve been streaming music, and don’t orient myself so much to albums (congratulations to you for that focus Austen) here’s some artists I’ve been listening to a lot in the last few years:
Susan Tedeschi
Kenny Chesney
Alison Krauss
Rhonda Vincent
Neil Young
Chili Peppers (I’m a myspace friend!)
oh, add to my list:
Willie Nelson - Stardust
If you’re including jazz albums, “Bitches Brew” by Miles Davis is one of the all-time greatest. I also love Weather Report, especially since Jaco Pastorius went to the high school on my street. In “world music”, I love “Orientation” by Thione Seck (a singer from Senegal) in which he brings together West African, Egyptian, and Indian musicians. I also really like Rachid Taha - his cover version of “Rock the Casbah” is great.
Using your translation feature, I translated your post into Spanish. Then back to English.
1. Blue roundup - five days in July
Almost each single song in this album is hardly impressive level. The blue roundup is a Canadian bandage of the country, although it is not stereotypical country, he has many of other great influences. An album of must-having for any person who remotely has taste of any class of music. The solo guitar in the song “five days in May” is hardly IMPRESSIVE.
2. Joe Jackson - to seem acute!
This has many of great songs of the single one “is she really who leaves to him” “a plus Time.” It is a very pleasant combination of punky very early and the alternative - very experimental, but of a very good way.
And yes, Five Days in July is definitely an album of must-having!
