War of the Worlds is not a kids movie (OOOOPPPPSSS!!!!) but it is very well done. It is by Steven Spielberg who, as far as I know, has never gone wrong in making a movie. Anyway, the story starts out with Ray, the main character (Tom Cruise) living his normal life in a suburban New Jersey under a highway. It’s that time when the sun is about to set, and he’s playing baseball with his son. He and his wife are divorced, and he has to take care of the kids.
Then theres a lightning storm and lightning hits in the same place a few blocks away dozens of times. People from around the area go to see what had happened, Ray also. A huge spider-robot monster thingy comes out and starts zapping people. Okay, okay - this sounds a little babyish, so I’ll just tell you that this is on the higher side of PG-13, meaning that it is closer to R than to PG.
The movie is scary, but dazzling, and the special effects are awesome. Just go and see it if you think you can handle it!

We saw it last night, and the special effects were really gripping. But the character exposition was kinda labored, and I could have totally done without the extended scene in the basement with nutball Tim Robbins.

yeah, that scene was a little to long. Anyway, I loved the beginning when all of the glass started breaking in the windows and the aliens came out
