MacHeist: Lots of fun!

Well, it’s over now so it’s a little pointless to post this now, but yes, I bought the MacHeist bundle about a week and a half ago and it’s amazing. What is was it? It was basically 7, then 10, then 12, then 14 pieces of mac software that adds up to $500 available for two weeks for only $50. Cool.

Surprisingly, I found that I really liked some of the apps I thought I could have gone without before buying them. In short, the good and the bad…

Good:
AppZapper - Only beats the free AppDelete because of the sound effect. And that’s the only reason why.
CoverSutra - Amazing easy, and beautiful way to control iTunes
Pixelmator - Awesome. Just like Photoshop, but prettier, faster, and with less bloat
Snapz Pro X - Presently surprised - love the sound effects
Speed Download - I’m using it and it is a good way to manage downloads
VectorDesigner - Can’t wait to get the serial, great for logos
WingNuts 2 - Fun game, but not worth the regular price

Bad:
1password - It bugs me every time I login but hopefully it’ll stop once I get logged in everywhere
Awaken - I can’t use, because my computer isn’t in my room.:-(
Cha-Ching - I’m 15, I don’t have any money to manage
CSSEdit - I have no need for it (yet)
iStopMotion - In short, it sucks. It’s a horrible app an limits instead of advances stop motion movies, IMHO
TaskPaper - Over-hyped, basically does nothing
Tiki Magic Mini Golf - The serial wouldn’t even work, OK game

Still, even if it was just the good applications, this would be an amazing deal. I’m very glad I bought it.

I love 1password. You can get rid of that annoying prompt by going to the preferences and telling it to automatically save forms instead of asking.

I used Awaken in my hotel room at Macworld to wake me up for the keynote (with “Wake Up” by Arcade Fire :)
I already had 1password & AppZapper, so I gifted those licenses.

With Hazel I really don’t need AppZapper. You simply drag an application to the trash and Hazel will find the associated files and ask if you want to remove them. Hazel also does a lot more, like watching my downloads folder and automatically moving music & video files to the appropriate place, and color coding files according to age.

I was going to write a snarky comment about the value of a program that allows you to use your computer as a device to wake you up in the morning.

Instead, I’ll just mention that my cellphone has replaced both my wristwatch and my alarm clock. It works pretty good and the functionality doesn’t cost anything extra.
