I think that the death of Mr. Eko in the second-to-last episode before the end of this first batch of episodes was stupid and unnecessary. He was a great character and had a lot more potential.
But NOOOOOOOOOO, Mr. Blackedey-black-smoke-monster has to grab him up and throw him against a bunch of trees. And then he just dies????? HEH????
Anyway, I think that this episode was much better. No freaky polar bears, no new hatches, no dead people that aren’t dead, just a great emotional and character driven story with a pretty big cliff-hanger. Great episode. The best of the season so far. And Nathan Fillion’s (Firefly and Serenity!) appearance as Kate’s husband was great, and it was just a great episode - exactly what I expect from Lost. The weird freaky stuff like the black smoke is cool, but I think that they’ve really been over-doing it lately.
Oh, and one more thing: I like TV Squad’s suggestion for what the name of the episode SHOULD have been:
“who Kate did.”
(As an homage to the episode “What Kate Did” from last season.)
