I should probably rename this…. because (1) it’s not daily, and (2) it’s not all news but also interesting blog posts… Hm.

News for May 30, 2007

Sorry it’s been so long since the last one… Anyway this is both news and other stuff.

News for May 14, 2007

Just a little bit of news today…

  • My Name is Earl still at 8:00 - Good show, but I’m surprised that it’s survived 2 full seasons now - I didn’t think that anyone watched it.
  • 30 Rock at 8:30. Not a huge fan, don’t really care either way.
  • The Office at 9:00 - Noooooooo!!! Only half and hour. Oh well.
  • Scrubs at 9:30 - Yaaaay!!! Scrubs will return!!!
  • Studio 60 gone - Idiots. Stupid idiots. How could they choose 30 Rock over Studio 60?
  • Heroes returns - I have a feeling that the second season isn’t going to be very good for the same reasons that Lost isn’t as good as it used to be. (Although last weeks episode was great)
  • Friday Night Lights on Friday Night - Don’t watch it, but that’s just silly.
  • PC World editor hired back - He quit because he couldn’t write an article on “10 things we hate about Apple because Apple is a PC World sponsor. So his boss’s boss fired his boss, who didn’t allow the article.

That’s all for today, sorry.

News for May 10, 2007

More news!!! Yay!

  • George Lucas doesn’t like Spidey 3 - He’s just jealous because (1) Spider-Man is now a trilogy like Star Wars, and (2) because ILM didn’t do the special effects on it, and it has great special effects.
  • Oh, and 2 more Star Wars movies - Actually, just 2 hour-long TV movies… with none of the original characters.
  • Tony Blair finally resigns - Not that don’t like him… it’s just he’s been hinting at it since forever.
  • No more smoking in PG-13 movies - Okay, not exactly. But that’s the general idea. Smoking will heavily affect the ratings of movies alongside sex, violence, and language. I like how Barry R. Bloom puts it: “No one has died from hearing the f-word. But 438,000 people in U.S., and five million worldwide, die each year from tobacco-related illness.” I have mixed feelings about this. Sure, it’s unneccessary sometimes but at other times it represents the character and what they’re going through. But most of those movies are rated R anyway.

There wasn’t much news over the weekend, hence the absence of News posts then. Anyway, here’s today’s:

News for May 04, 2007

Here’s the second installment of my News category/series/daily thingy. Feel free to respond to any of the news items in the comments.

  • Yahoo drops photo service, videos coming to Flickr - Yahoo! announced that they will kill their photo service in favor Flickr, which they bought in 2005. Also, videos will be coming to Flickr soon! I have always thought of YouTube as the Flickr of videos, so this is a bit of a surprise to me, but I expect the Flickr with videos to be much more intuitive than YouTube. (Not that YouTube isn’t great)
  • Spider-Man scores only 61% on RT - Nooo!!! The 3rd Spider-Man movie is getting mediocre reviews. Only 61% of reviewers liked it as tallied by Rotten Tomatoes, which is still certified “Fresh,” but barely. The first two installments each got above 90%. That’s way too bad. After the success of Spider-Man 2, I was expecting another success.
  • No more Pandora for non-US listeners - Yeah, free speech is great and all - but this is one of those times when I’m really glad to be an American.
  • A Greener Apple - Looks like Apple is finally listening to Greenpeace (great site) and making their computers… well, greener. How much do you want to bet there will be a special edition green iPod? I mean, they have a Harry Potter, U2, and (Product) Red iPod Nano, so that’s not that far-fetched.
  • Digg chooses the people over corporations - Digg has decided NOT to delete postings of illegal HD-DVD encryption codes, despite receiving a cease-and-desist letter. Good for them. I like how Cnet puts it: The revolution will be posted.
  • Only 5 seasons of Lost - More is really less. (Or less is more, same thing) Now that Lost it’s (almost) official that Lost will end after 5 seasons I can finally breathe. There is an ending. The writers will be able to plan out the mysteries and (doubtful, but hopeful) answers. With only 2 seasons left to go, the writers might be able to make these past two seasons slightly comprehensible. (Fingers crossed)

News for May 03, 2007

I’ve decided to post some news and give little snippets of what I think of it each day, because there are so many great stories that I don’t have enough to say about for a whole blog post but that I find really interesting. I will admit, this is inspired by Aaron’s “Daily Digest.” But what makes this different from Daily Digest is it’s only general news having nothing to do with me instead of news about me.

I don’t plan to do this EVERY day, but at least every 2 days to just leave my two cents about current news going on. This will not conflict with my other regular postings.

  • Hour-long Office? - The Office is THE best half-hour comedy on television, and I usually wish for more after each half-hour episode. Apparently extending The Office to an hour is being considered for next season. But is an hour too long? It wasn’t for this year’s “super-sized” Christmas episode, so I’m hopeful.
  • Pidgin IM Final Beta - Downloading now. It looks like (from screenshots) that they’ve improved the prettiness of the old Gaim interface.
  • New magazine dedicated solely to Blogging and Podcasting - Pretty ironic - a magazine about podcasting and blogging.
  • Pink Zune - Eh, big deal. Who would actually buy pink electronics?
