More music that I like

Aside from the albums mentioned in my last post, I’d like to point out some individual songs that I really, really like. Most of them are the only song that I own by their artist. Still, here’s ten songs (in no specific order) that I like to hear over and over and over and over again - and they don’t get old. They’re all sort of current popular one hit wonders - or at least from my point of view. Sorry, no links this time. (I’m to lazy)

Crazy - Gnarls Barley

I know it’s way overplayed, but it’s a really interesting song, it sounds like it’s something from the 70s, but it’s not.

You Know My Name - Chris Cornell

This is the song they play at the beginning of Casino Royale. I didn’t think much of it originally, but it grows on you.

Losing My Religion - R.E.M.

I love the pace and tempo of this song. That’s it.

You Get What You Give - New Radicals

It’s hard to tell why I like this one, but it’s just so happy and feel-good-ish.

Sunday Morning - Maroon 5

I originally heard this song on a review copy of a mp3 player cell phone for the podcast - Well anyway, the rest of the album (Songs About Jane) is ok, but none of them are as good as this.

Jack & Diane - John Mellencamp

I love the main part, where I think it’s a guitar - very nice. Also, the vocals of the song are sung interestingly - it varies more and is more realistic than most music.

Accidentally In Love - Counting Crows

Made vastly popular by being featured in Shrek 2, it’s again hard to place why the song is good. Generally, a good, although somewhat predictable song.

It’s My Life - Bon Jovi

This is one of those “rallying songs.” Okay, that’s not the best phrase - but it can bring out a lot of emotion and it’s good to let out anger with.

Superman - Lazlo Bane

It’s the theme song of Scrubs, and it’s also not very well known besides that. Unfortuanally. The other songs on the album are actually pretty good.

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life - Monty Python

I’m sorry, but after seing Spamalot this past weekend (review coming soon) I couldn’t help putting this down as the last one. It doesn’t exactly fit into the category, but who cares.

Always look on the bright side of life!!!

My Top 5 CDs of All-Time

Here are some of my all-time favorite

1. Blue Rodeo - Five Days in July

Almost every single song on this album is just plain awesome. Blue Rodeo is a canadian country band, although it’s not stereotypical country, it has a lot of other great influences. A must-have album for anyone who remotely likes any kind of music. The guitar solo on the song “Five Days in May” is just AWESOME.

2. Joe Jackson - Look Sharp!

This has a lot of great songs from the single “Is She Really Going Out To Him?” to “One More Time.” It’s a very nice combination of very early punk and alternative - very experimental, but in a very good way.

3. The Beatles - Rubber Soul

My favorite Beatles album features “Drive My Car,” “You Won’t See Me,” “Norwegian Wood” and so much more. Again, almost all the songs on the album are great. That’s really what makes a good album I guess.

4. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run

Almost every song on the album is really great. Born to Run is a great song,
but Thunder Road is then ten times better. Highly recommended.

5. “Weird Al” Yankovic - Straight Outta Lynwood

This album is definitely Weird Al’s best ever. From the hilarious “White
& Nerdy” to the excrutiatingly long “Stuck in the Drive-Thru” to
the (again) hilarious “Don’t Download this Song” this album does NOT
disappoint.

Ketchup: Linux, burning to a roast and more

I KNOW that I haven’t posted for over a week, and the last post was only a Christmas list, and before that it had also been a long time, and I’ve very sorry, so I’m going to catch you up (or ketch-up), right here, right now as an apology. So here it is; Things that have happened since my last post:

  • I installed Ubuntu (a distribution of Linux) on my Mom’s old computer and it is awesome! It’s too bad there’s no internet on it (yet.)
  • I became a subscriber on Last.fm (this actually happened a month ago, but whatever) and personal radio is awesome - it play songs you like AND songs you will like!!!
  • I am almost done re-reading Eragon in preparation for the movie which I have just found out has a terrible 14% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.:-(But I’m sure I’ll love it anyway!:-)
  • I received the newest MAD magazine that came with a free coupon that says “Get an iPod!” Of course, only the coupon is free.
  • I wrote a poem for English class that I will not post on this blog because although it start out like “the night was dark, the lake was calm, there are no sounds…” blah blah, it eventually ends up referring to a specific young person (or at least at the time) being “burned to a roast.”
  • I spent all of my allowance for the week on soda, pizza, and GUMMI BEARS! (All by Wednesday.)
  • I’ve been tweaking Netsua in numerous ways… (1) I got a plug-in for Wordpress that gives me more power over what goes on the sidebar, on which pages, etc. (2) I put some Christmas holiday lights on the logo for the site. (3) I made some minor updates to the About page.
  • I have also been trying to speed Netsua up in general by reducing the loading time with less and smaller images. I lowered the quality of the main logo and “more bar” from maximum to high when saving them in Photoshop. Also, the more bar now is the same shade of blue as the main menu. I also put a break in the Last.fm post so that only one image shows on the main page, and disabled the Flickr sidebar. All to reduce the overall loading time. So far I have reduced the loading time from 3.16 seconds to 2.46 seconds. (I hope to another 0.3 seconds soon.)

Good Charlotte

I’ve just discovered the band Good Charlotte and have bought an album of theirs, “The Young and the Hopeless” in addition to their song “I Just Wanna Live” which is my new favorite song.

They’re pretty good - they’re like green day, but a little less hard-rock-ish. Guess how I found them - that’s right - Pandora. There’s some good stuff on there.

Lots of new (mini) pages and Pandora

I spent this afternoon creating those pages that I always wanted to create, but were to unimportant or cluttered the menu bar. I made them all subpages of the newly created More page! So far there are five pages:

  • Contact me
  • RSS Feeds
  • Archives
  • Links
  • Mood-O-Matic

They’re all pretty cool. People have been asking for archives for a while, so it’s good that it’s finally here. The same with RSS Feeds. Mood-O-Matic is pointless fun, so don’t pay attention to it.

I also added these buttons to the sidebar, to give it more feeling. I coordinated them to look like one - cool, huh?

And finally, the Pandora sidebar. Pandora is only the coolest web app to find more music that you like. Check it out, it’s awesome. So I got the thing on the sidebar that shows my favorites songs from it, just like the Flickr sidebar.

That’s all for now.

Weird Al Yankovic

Okay, okay, I know that his name is… well, weird but his lyrics to popular music are hilarious, take his version of that Avril Larkvene (something like that) song…

Uh huh … extra cheese
Uh huh, uh huh … save a piece for me

Pizza, party at your house
I went, just to check it out
Nineteen extra larges
What a shame
No one came

Just us eatin’ all alone
You said, “Take the pizza home”
“No sense lettin’ all this go to waste”
So then I faced

Pizza all day
And every day
This cheese ’round the clock
Is gettin’ me blocked
And I sure don’t care
For irregularity

Tell me
Why’d you have to go and make me so constipated?
‘Cause right now I’d do anything to just get my bowels evacuated, in the bathroom
I sit and I wait and I strain and I sweat and I clench and I feel the pain
Oh, should I take laxatives or have my colon irrigated?
No no no

The Black Eyed Peas…

Okay, I don’t really like rap music, and I’m not a huge fan of Hip-Hop. So I kind of had this thing against The Black Eyed Peas, but I decided to give them a try so I went onto iTunes and listened to some samples of their songs. They’re……. well they get stuck in your head and some of them (a few) aren’t that bad. Some of them I hate, with completely messed up lyrics, but there’s one that has really good lyrics with a pretty good tune. “Where is the Love”…
