From one of the creators of Yamji comes the Wordpress theme Squible. Like Yamji, it’s simple, clean, has a funny name, and blue (although you can customize all of the colors.) I just love it because it’s so simple. There’s no sidebar, just a clean and simple customizable logo, easy to read text and a couple of color options. Perfect! (Not for my site, but say for websites about some software or something.)

Candy Canes are way overrated, here’s why:
1. Although the shape may look cool, and be good for hanging, when you try to eat a candy cane the shape gets in the way and it’s hard to eat.
2. They get really sharp at the ends once you suck on them for a while - safety hazard!
3. The red part is only a thin layer on the top (or at least on the ones that I’ve had) so it’s not REALLY swirly.
4. It’s just like those mints in the size of a cane!
I have been looking for a website that lets you rate, review, and talk about movies (a social networking site) for ages, and so far I have come across two good ones: Flixtser and Yamji.
Put simply, Flixster is Myspace + Movies and Yamji is Last.fm + Movies.
Flixster isn’t the best looking website, but it seems to already have a pretty good base (the site has been around for over a year now) but it really is like Myspace, ads, ugliness, and they let inexperienced users create skins for different movies. Key word: inexperienced. Sometimes they’re hard to read. Still, Flixster has some nice ajaxy features, letting you rate movies and customize your page, but overall it’s Myspace with movies with some ajax thrown in. So after using Flixster for a while, I concluded it was okay, but it was just to… myspacey.
And today I find Yamji. Yamji is still in pre-pre-alpha. There are barely ANY movies on it. Spider-man 2 wasn’t on it, and neither was The Last King of Scotland. Still, it’s pre-pre-alpha for a reason. And it’s not UGLY like Myspace and Flixster. It focuses more on movie information then social-myspacey type stuff. Still, the site feels empty (I’m still the newest user after 5 hours.) It has a lot to add, but it’s a great start, and even now better than Flixster. And for some reason I can’t write a review (users not writing reviews is a bad idea, but I’ll let it go - for now.) So check out Yamji, it’s got some great potential. So if and when it gets big - you heard it here first!
In case you couldn’t tell, I choose Yamji over Flixster.
Woot! Of course, some of it is due to recent posts not having pictures, but there’s a big YouTube video on now and the main page loads in under 2 seconds at T1 speed! And it used to be 3.16! Yay! Okay, it’s probably just because of the pictures not being there, but still.
Oh, I find this info out here.
What would we do without YouTube?

The remnants are being sold on Ebay, where it’s currently going for $580 with a free blender and t-shirt added on.
I KNOW that I haven’t posted for over a week, and the last post was only a Christmas list, and before that it had also been a long time, and I’ve very sorry, so I’m going to catch you up (or ketch-up), right here, right now as an apology. So here it is; Things that have happened since my last post:
- I installed Ubuntu (a distribution of Linux) on my Mom’s old computer and it is awesome! It’s too bad there’s no internet on it (yet.)
- I became a subscriber on Last.fm (this actually happened a month ago, but whatever) and personal radio is awesome - it play songs you like AND songs you will like!!!
- I am almost done re-reading Eragon in preparation for the movie which I have just found out has a terrible 14% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.:-(But I’m sure I’ll love it anyway!:-)
- I received the newest MAD magazine that came with a free coupon that says “Get an iPod!” Of course, only the coupon is free.
- I wrote a poem for English class that I will not post on this blog because although it start out like “the night was dark, the lake was calm, there are no sounds…” blah blah, it eventually ends up referring to a specific young person (or at least at the time) being “burned to a roast.”
- I spent all of my allowance for the week on soda, pizza, and GUMMI BEARS! (All by Wednesday.)
- I’ve been tweaking Netsua in numerous ways… (1) I got a plug-in for Wordpress that gives me more power over what goes on the sidebar, on which pages, etc. (2) I put some
Christmasholiday lights on the logo for the site. (3) I made some minor updates to the About page. - I have also been trying to speed Netsua up in general by reducing the loading time with less and smaller images. I lowered the quality of the main logo and “more bar” from maximum to high when saving them in Photoshop. Also, the more bar now is the same shade of blue as the main menu. I also put a break in the Last.fm post so that only one image shows on the main page, and disabled the Flickr sidebar. All to reduce the overall loading time. So far I have reduced the loading time from 3.16 seconds to 2.46 seconds. (I hope to another 0.3 seconds soon.)
I know that I haven’t posted in like 2 weeks, but I’ve been busy, and I KNOW you guys really want a Christmas(/holiday) list, so here it is:
Little Miss Sunshine DVD - $16
Pirates of the Caribbean 1: The Curse of the Black Pearl Two disc DVD - $20
Any of these Red Hot Chili Pepper Albums (in descending order of wantedness): Stadium Arcadium, Greatest Hits, Californication - $19 (2 discs), $14, and $14
The Personal Best of Monty Python’s Flying Circus DVD - $22
Monty Python and the Holy Grail DVD - $14
Canon Digital Elph Accessory Kit for SD700 IS (my camera!) - $47
That’s all that I can think of right now. I might add a couple more later.
Of course, these aren’t the ONLY things I want, and they’re not everything I’m gonna get. If you think I’ll like another artist, then you can get me a CD by them, or whatever.
