Now that I have a Mac, I’ve decided to go back and see if the things I always read about them were actually true… so here’s my custom 10 popular reasons to get a Mac (loosely taken from here) and if I’ve found them to be true or not.
- It just works - So true! Compared to Windows, it’s just so much easier to use and so much faster.
- No hunting for drivers - Everything that I’ve plugged in works just fine, if not 10 times better than they did on my old PC.
- You can make amazing things - iLife. Is. Awesome. I love iPhoto. I don’t need the advanced features of Aperture, and iMovie (the old version) is great for putting together movies - or at least until I save up enough money for Final Cut.
- Beautiful designs - That’s one thing no one, no one can deny. Macs are definitely the best-looking computers that I’ve ever seen.
- You can run Windows - I haven’t tried this out, mostly because I already have a PC, but there’s no doubt that it’s true and that it works like a charm especially with Parallels.
- No viruses - I haven’t encountered any, but there’s no doubt that there are some out there. Let’s just hope that when hackers start targeting Macs that OS X is as advanced as Apple says it is.
- They’re now the same price as PCs - Not exactly. You can get PCs really cheap now, but there’s no doubt that the premium you pay for a Mac is made up for with absolutely awesome software and much better resale value.
- OS X is the best OS - Well, price-wise Ubuntu is because the ratio of 0 to $120 is a big one. But if you are gonna pay, OS X is by far the best-looking and functional OS. Not to mention weekly security updates that don’t usually require you to restart your computer
- A whole new world of software - OK, these last few are mine. But when you get a Mac you’re introduced to a whole new worl of software: All of Apple’s stuff of course, but also things like Twitterific, Adium, Camino, etc.
- Did I say that it just works? - Well, it does.

Macs are great, but of course they have tiny faults.
